We often think about leadership in terms of what we do. We cast vision. We make decisions. We solve problems. We build teams. We communicate. We set strategy. But there is another dimension of leadership that may matter even more.

“We just need to communicate better.” It’s one of the most common prescriptions for struggling relationships. Whether it’s a marriage, a workplace team, or a friendship, we assume that if people could simply express themselves more clearly, everything would improve.

Most ministry teams don’t expect conflict. So when tension begins to surface, it often catches people off guard.
